š® VALORANT Champions Shanghai 2026: The Ultimate Guide ā Schedule, Teams, Tickets, Streaming & OnāSite Experience
If you're a VALORANT fan, mark your calendars for late September through midāOctober ā because VALORANT Champions Shanghai 2026Ā is the esports event you absolutely cannot afford to miss.
This is the pinnacle of the 2026 VCT season. The best teams from VCT Americas, VCT EMEA, VCT Pacific, and VCT China will converge on Shanghai to battle for the ultimate prize: the VALORANT World Championship.
What makes this event even more significant: šØš³Ā This marks the first time VALORANT Champions has ever been held in China.
Building on the success of Masters Shanghai 2024, Riot Games is bringing the crown jewel of VALORANT esports back to Shanghai ā and this time, it is the biggest tournament of the entire competitive year. According to theĀ official VCT tournament overview, Champions Shanghai runs fromĀ September 24 to October 18, 2026.
For Chinese fans, this is far more than just another streamāwatching experience. It is a onceāināaālifetime chance to witness the world championship live on home soil, surrounded by unmatched fan energy and local esports culture.
From a gamer's perspective, let's break down everything you need to know: event background, schedule, competing teams, competition format, official streams, ticketing, venue details, and a complete onāsite Shanghai travel guide.
š® 1. What Is VALORANT Champions Shanghai 2026?
VALORANT Champions stands as the highestāstakes tournament within the entire VCT (VALORANT Champions Tour) ecosystem.
If you are new to VALORANT esports, think of the VCT structure like this:
Regional Leagues ā International Masters ā Global Champions
And Champions sits at the very top of this pyramid.
The 2026 international event roadmap:
VCT Kickoff ā Masters Santiago ā Stage 1 ā Masters London ā Stage 2 ā š Champions Shanghai
Champions Shanghai serves as the grand finale of the full VCT international season, running September 24āÆāāÆOctoberāÆ18, 2026.
š Champions vs. Masters ā What's the Difference?
This distinction often confuses newer viewers.
| Event | Purpose | 2026 Host City |
|---|---|---|
| Kickoff | Season opener per region | Various regions |
| Masters Santiago | First global event of the year | Santiago |
| Masters London | Second global event of the year | London |
| Champions Shanghai š | World Championship | šØš³ Shanghai |
If you only have time to follow one VALORANT tournament all year,Ā Champions is the one to watch.
šØš³ 2. Why Champions Shanghai Is a MustāWatch

From my perspective, this tournament carries three special meanings for Chinese fans.
š„ Champions Comes to China for the First Time
Riot Games has previously hosted Champions in Seoul, Paris, and other major cities. In 2026, Shanghai finally gets its turn. As seen during Masters Shanghai 2024, the MercedesāBenz Arena was filled to capacity, and overwhelming local fan response made Shanghai the natural pick to host the world championship.
š„ Four Full Slots for Chinese Teams
Champions Shanghai featuresĀ 16 teamsĀ total, with each of the four major regions receiving four qualification slots:
-
šØš³ VCT China: 4 teams
-
šŗšø VCT Americas: 4 teams
-
šŖšŗ VCT EMEA: 4 teams
-
š VCT Pacific: 4 teams
PerĀ official VCT rules, each region sends the topātwo finishers from Stage 2 playoffs plus the two highest earners in Championship Points. All four of China's representatives are now fully confirmed.
š„ This Isn't "Just Another Masters Stop"
We watched Masters Shanghai back in 2024. In 2026, we get theĀ VALORANT World Championship. Translation:Ā The world champion trophy will be lifted right here in Shanghai.
š 3. When Does Champions Shanghai 2026 Take Place?
Official tournament datesĀ are locked in:
September 24 ā October 18, 2026
That amounts to nearly a full month of eliteālevel VALORANT competition across late September through midāOctober.
šļø Tournament Phases
The competition unfolds in distinct stages:
Group Stage ā Quarterfinals ā Winners/Losers Bracket ā Finals Weekend ā Grand Final
| Phase | Dates | Teams Involved |
|---|---|---|
| Group Stage | Sep 24 ā Oct 2 | 16 teams |
| Early Playoffs | Oct 6 ā Oct 11 | 8 teams |
| Finals Weekend | Oct 14 ā Oct 18 | Final 4 teams |
| Grand Final | Oct 18 | 2 teams |
ā ļøĀ Important Update ā Draw Show Date: The group draw will take place onĀ September 7, 2026, immediately after the Americas Stage 2 finals. Date subject to official adjustment.
Important: Groupāstage tickets go on sale before the draw (Sep 2). This means you areĀ buying blindĀ ā there is no guarantee you will see a Chinese team compete on your selected day.

ā° Time Note: All dates & times listed in this guide are China Standard Time (CST, UTC+8). Please adjust for your local time zone.
šļø 4. Where Will the Matches Be Held?
One of the most interesting features of this Champions event is that competition will span two separate venues for different tournament phases.
š Phase 1: Jing'an Sports Center
Champions Shanghai kicks off atĀ Shanghai Jing'an Sports Center. The group stage and early playoffs (Sep 24 ā Oct 11) will all take place here. Fans will watch the world's best VALORANT sides fight to secure their spot in the final rounds.
šĀ Metro: Jing'an Sports Center sits close toĀ Line 1, Wenshui Road Station (Exit 2)Ā ā roughly a 5āminute walk.
šļø Finals Weekend: MercedesāBenz Arena
As the tournament reaches its climax, play shifts to theĀ Shanghai MercedesāBenz Arena. This venue needs no introduction for Chinese VALORANT fans: it hosted the grand final for Masters Shanghai 2024.
šĀ Metro: MercedesāBenz Arena is accessible fromĀ Line 8, China Art Museum Station (Exit 3)Ā , orĀ Line 13, Expo Boulevard Station. Both stations are within walking distance.
š Quick snapshot of the Champions experience:

š” Side Event: Qiantan Leisure Park | VALORANT Fan Carnival
-
Dates: Oct 14 ā Oct 18
-
ā Ā Free entryĀ ā no match ticket required
Even if you cannot secure tickets for the main competition venues, you can head over to Qiantan Leisure Park. Attendees can explore largeāscale IP installations, purchase official event merchandise, join interactive fan activations, and enjoy cosplayer performances. It sits within close proximity to MercedesāBenz Arena, making it easy to combine with your finalsāweekend plans.
š 5. Which Teams Are Competing at Champions Shanghai 2026?
Champions Shanghai brings togetherĀ 16 teamsĀ ā four representatives from each of the four major competitive regions.
As of August 31, 2026, China's four participants are fully confirmed, while qualification races in other regions are still ongoing.

š Other Regions
šŖšŗ VCT EMEA, š VCT Pacific, and šŗšø VCT Americas are still running their qualifying tournaments, so not every international participant is locked in yet.

š® 6. Champions Shanghai 2026 Format Explained
This section is especially valuable for viewers new to VALORANT esports. TheĀ official tournament structureĀ is:
16āTeam Group Stage + 8āTeam DoubleāElimination Playoffs
Phase 1: 16āTeam Group Stage
Sixteen teams are split acrossĀ 4 GSLāformat groupsĀ of four teams each. Every groupāstage match is aĀ BO3 (Best of 3).
šĀ What is a GSL group?Ā Each team plays a minimum of two matches. Lose twice, and you are eliminated. Win twice, and you advance onward. If you sit at a 1ā1 record, you compete in one final decider match.
Group Draw Rule:Ā Sameāregion avoidanceĀ ā no two teams originating from the same region can be placed inside the same group. This prevents earlyāround regional matchups.
TheĀ top two teamsĀ from each group advance to playoffs, trimming the field from 16 competitors down to eight.
š„ 7. Phase 2: 8āTeam DoubleāElimination Playoffs
Once we move into playoffs,Ā eight teams enter a doubleāelimination bracket.
In doubleāelimination rules:Ā losing once does not send you home. Drop your opening fixture and you fall into the lower bracket. Lose a second time, and you are eliminated. This dynamic is what makes playoff VALORANT so thrilling to watch.
PerĀ official competition rules, all playoff matches are BO3 with two key exceptions:
-
Lower Bracket Final: BO5
-
Grand Final: BO5
These highāstakes BO5 series are the matches that will ultimately decide our world champion.
š 8. Who Will Be Crowned 2026 VALORANT World Champion?
The entire tournament culminates with two teams facing off.
Grand Final: BO5Ā ā Winner becomes šĀ 2026 VALORANT WORLD CHAMPION.
This is what fundamentally separates Champions from regular VCT league play or Masters events.
š° 9. Prize Pool
The total prize pool for this year's Champions sits at a massive $2.25 million, with the champion collecting $1,000,000.
| Placement | Prize (USD) |
|---|---|
| š„ Champion | $1,000,000 |
| š„ Runnerāup | $400,000 |
| š„ 3rd Place | $250,000 |
| 4th Place | $130,000 |
| 5ā6th Place | $85,000 each |
| 7ā8th Place | $50,000 each |
| 9ā12th Place | $30,000 each |
| 13ā16th Place | $20,000 each |

š” My Take
Casual fans do not need to spring for topātier seating. Tier 2 or Tier 3 delivers excellent value for your first Champions live experience.
If you want the full finalsāweekend atmosphere, watching the world's best teams compete for the trophy,Ā MercedesāBenz Arena is where you want to be. Be careful not to confuse Jing'an Sports Center groupāstage tickets with finalsāweekend tickets.

International purchasers must use aĀ valid passportĀ when buying tickets.
-
You must bring theĀ physical passportĀ you used during purchase to enter the venue. Digital copies will not suffice.

š 16. Planning Your Trip to Shanghai
If you are travelling into Shanghai from elsewhere, here is my practical preātrip advice.
ā Hotels
-
Jing'an Sports Center phase: Look for accommodation inĀ Jing'an, West Nanjing Road, or People's SquareĀ districts.
-
Finals Weekend (MercedesāBenz Arena)Ā : PrioritizeĀ Pudong Expo, Qiantan, or LujiazuiĀ areas for maximum convenience.
ā” Metro
Shanghai's public transit network is one of its biggest strengths for major esports events. I recommendĀ metro + walkingĀ over rideāhailing taxis. Venues flood with spectators right after matches, creating severe taxi traffic jams.
šĀ Venue Metro Quick Reference:
-
Jing'an Sports Center: Line 1, Wenshui Road Station (Exit 2)
-
MercedesāBenz Arena: Line 8, China Art Museum Station (Exit 3) / Line 13, Expo Boulevard Station
⢠Do Not Arrive LastāMinute
Official venue scheduleĀ (local time):
-
15:30Ā ā Venue doors open
-
16:00Ā ā PreāShow Countdown
-
16:30Ā ā PreāShow programming
-
17:00Ā ā Competition broadcast begins
Do not show up at 16:55 for a 17:00 start. You will need time forĀ security screening, ticket validation, ID checks, and finding your seat. Arrive at minimumĀ one hour early.
š Important for International Travellers
Foreign visitors need a valid Chinese visa to enter mainland China.Ā The physical passport you used for ticket purchase will be checked at entry. Digital passport copies are not accepted. Do not leave visa arrangements until shortly before your trip.
š 17. What to Bring (and Not Bring) to Champions
ā MustāBring
-
Mobile phone
-
Governmentāissued ID / physical passport
-
Ticket or purchase confirmation
-
Portable power bank
-
Small amount of cash as backup
š Recommended
-
Team merchandise and handāmade fan signs
-
Small support flags
-
Official eventābranded merch
-
Charging cables
-
Earplugs (arena audio can get extremely loud)
ā Leave These Items At Home
Venue securityĀ strictly restricts weapons and largeāscale props. Confiscation applies to:
-
Knives, replica firearms, bows, 3Dāprinted weapon props
-
Metal or wooden cosplay weaponry
-
Foam and plastic weapon replicas
-
Outside liquids, gels, smokeāgenerating props
-
Open flames and flammable / explosive materials
š” If you plan to cosplay:Ā review the latest official venue guidelines well in advance.Ā Avoid showing up in full costume only to be denied entry.
š Venue Food & Drinks
Both Jing'an Sports Center and MercedesāBenz Arena operate onāsite food and beverage concessions. Refer to ināvenue maps for stand locations. Travel light; you do not need to bring outside meals.
šø 18. What's It Like Watching Champions Live vs. At Home?
For gamers, the biggest difference between watching ināarena versus streaming is not screen size.Ā It is the atmosphere.
You will hear deafening crowd chants forĀ EDG, XLG, TYLOO, alongside roars for visiting international teams. Every round shifts the arena energy during deciding BO3 maps: pistol rounds, eco rounds, spectacular clutches, matchāpoint scenarios, overtime. The live crowd atmosphere far surpasses even the most active Twitch chat.
For Champions specifically, expect opening ceremonies, stage performances, full player introductions, coordinated fan chants, merchandise activations, official fan meetāandāgreet opportunities, and onāsite crowd games.
If you are a dedicated VALORANT player and travel is feasible,Ā I highly recommend attending Champions live at least once.
š 19. Why This Championship Could Be a Historic Turning Point
Something casual viewers often overlook: Riot Games has announced sweeping changes coming to the VCT system forĀ 2027. Next year, VCT will revert to openāqualifierāstyle competition, similar to the preā2023 format.
That meansĀ VALORANT Champions Shanghai 2026 is the final world championship under the current partneredāleague era.Ā This truly marks the end of an era, giving the 2026 world champion extra historical weight.
š„ 20. Top Storylines to Watch at Champions Shanghai 2026
These are the biggest narratives to follow throughout the tournament:
ā Can a Chinese Team Win on Home Soil?
This is the central question. China fields four Championsācaliber teams in EDG, XLG, JDG and TYLOO. But can homeācrowd advantage translate all the way to a world title? That will be the core drama of this event.
ā” Can TYLOO Maintain Their CN Form?
TYLOO just claimed the VCT CN Stage 2 crown. International opposition is an entirely different challenge. Domestic tournament success does not automatically equal worldāclass results. Their true test unfolds on Shanghai's BO3 and BO5 stages.
⢠Can EDG Challenge for the Crown Again?
EDG are former world champions with deep international experience. Should they make a deep tournament run, the homeāarena crowd will be electric.
⣠Will XLG Be the Dark Horse?
XLG is consistently one of China's most exciting rosters. Backātoāback Champions appearances plus their Masters London topāsix finish prove they belong competing at this level.
⤠Will Pacific Teams Continue to Dominate?
Pacific region teams have demonstrated incredible global strength. Sides like Paper Rex have proven worldāclass credentials. Their matchāups against Chinese teams in Shanghai are mustāwatch viewing.
ā„ EMEA vs. Americas ā Who's Stronger?
Regional tactical identities make Champions endlessly fascinating. Divergent mapāpool approaches, playstyles, and team dynamics regularly produce surprises. Teams that look unbeatable domestically can struggle on the international stage ā that is the beauty of VALORANT esports.
